Charity begins……. off the ladies tees
Ever wanted to try your hand off the Ladies tees? This weekend the ladies threw out a challenge to the men to swap tees and see who could outscore the others. As it is so "easy from the red teethe girls had to play from the men's blue (every day members) tees and break 120 and whilst the gents needed to beat 80 from the reds. These rules were agreed over a late dinner and more than a glass of water. Gents team led by Captain, John Charlick and Ladies team by Lady Captain, Sue Mason played out a close encounter.
Braving the sudden dip in temperatures this weekend the match took place under clear skies, woolly hats and plenty of thermal clothing.
Who won? According to one of the team members… "The only time it was close was when we all stood together on the tee boxes!"
3 ladies cruised round in under 120 and one man beat 80. Need I say more? Perhaps the men need to review either shot totals or who they choose in the team next time. Winner overall was the Captains Charity Sunnyside Rural Trust benefitting by £200.00 from all the betting from the members in the bar that morning. Apparently only one person actually bet on the boys!
A small mention should go to Tina Gregory who decided to run up a 15 on the Par 3 15th. She must have known the girls had plenty to play with. Even with that she only just missed the total as well! Congratulations Ladies, but next time you may have to play off the white tees!
Rory... ruler of Europe...
Rory McIlroy won his third European Order of Merit title in four years with a win the final event in Dubai at the weekend. Pressed all the way by Andy Sullivan, the Irishman showed his class and never allowed Danny Willett to get close. The Ulsterman can enjoy a few weeks off now before starting again in January with the Majors foremost in his sights. Willett played beautifully, as did Sullivan all week but Rors just had too much for everyone when it was needed most. His swing is just a thing of beauty and with a putter that worked better (although he missed plenty) McIlroy walked away with the win he craved.
Joining him next season on the European Tour will be Richie McEvoy and Matt Southgate, two Professionals who represent Thorpe Hall GC Both came through the "Tour School" finishing in the top ten securing their playing rights next season. Richie an experienced player out there these days needed a solid round to get confirm his spot and with a birdie, birdie, eagle start he got just that. Matt, who had a difficult year, overcoming testicular cancer played superb all week and finished it all off in great style. Congrats boys and have a great season in 2016.
Never stop believing
That's the message from Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy. Four years ago he was earning £30.00 playing non-league football and this weekend he equalled the Premier League's record of scoring in 10 consecutive matches. He has since become an England International and a striker to fear.
Why am I mentioning this? Many people come for a lesson and want to improve an aspect of their game. They have one, possibly two lessons but do not put the time in on the practice area. It is not always an immediate improvement but you have to be willing to commit some time as Jamie has, to making the effort and wanting to improve which then brings the rewards of scoring more goals or lower scores. So why not get in touch and let`s make a commitment to a plan to improve both your golf skills and enjoyment of the game for next season.

The Christmas draw is well and truly under way. For those who have yet to have a go, it's just £2.00 a square and 6 for £10.00. Ask Jon Berry and Gary Mason if it was worth entering? They had a blast as previous winners.
Christmas is just around the corner and make sure when you get asked "what do you want for Christmas?" You reply ….. "Just get me something from the golf shop". Remember to say Orsett Golf shop. Many of your wives and girlfriends may well assume you mean any shop, especially a convenient one near a shopping centre which can lead to problems. Of course we have the free parking here, stress free browsing, the advice of product knowledgeable staff but most importantly , we know you personally and can advise what it is YOU need or want clearly to an expert shopper but not in golf, rather than be sold just something golf. How would your non golfing better halves know which PING driver to buy, which loft, which shaft? Or what leather glove you prefer to wear? We can guide them through the complexity of the golf minefield. Everyone would like to have a sincere smile on their face Christmas morning when they open their presents, rather than the smile that says "nice thought but did you keep the receipt?"
We have just about everything required, so make Orsett Golf Shop your one stop shop this Christmas.
According to FootJoy, a worrying 50% of you are playing golf in a glove that’s too big for you – which will present grip issues. You might be fine, but ask us the question next time you’re about to head out for a round. Can’t do any harm, can it?

The clue's in the name - WhisperDry. It's what all golfers want, to keep dry when the heavens open without having to play in heavy, restrictive clothing. This jacket delivers on both fronts - and it looks fantastic, too.
The GMax and i irons are the latest additions to PING's impressive line-up. There are irons within the range that will suit different abilities. Watch our video to find out more and remember to quiz the team if you're looking at a new set.
