Everything is bigger in America…
We`ve all heard that statement and probably used it if ever visiting “the Land of Opportunity”. It’s not just the sandwiches or the cars either. How about golf memberships?
I recently played at Ardsley Golf and Country Club and witnessed one of the best views from a first tee that I`ve ever been lucky enough to play from. Overlooking the tree tops, across the Hudson River and into New Jersey it really sets the scene for what was to come.
Unusually, a blind tee shot down into the fairway from the tees precipice added to the unique setting. Thankfully the course laid out all before me after that!
In fantastic condition, bent grass greens at 11 on the stimp (not including the slope factor) with 4 inch rough to perfection around the small greens made for precise play on every shot. A real pleasure to play even with the climb back to the Clubhouse and Car Park behind the 18th green.
Where was I heading with all this? Oh yes, everything’s bigger.....How does $2,500 a month for fees sound to you? Which have to be used or losed! And this does not rank in the top 15 of the Metropolitan area, as it’s called. Oh and the joining fee…. just a matter of $75,000
So everything truly is bigger in America.
Turkey Delight …..
The Club held their annual Turkey Trott last Sunday. Congratulations to Green staff Stuart and Ian who played in the event but worked double fast to get the course playable with just an hour’s delay after the evening’s downpour. The course looked so good it was difficult to believe it had rained much at all. So a big thank you to them.
Winners on the day;
- Neil McGregor and Gerald Levelle with 45 points
- Alan Green and Jamie Cable 43 points
- Martin Lilley and Dean Parratt 43 points
Seven other pairs won smaller birds, including Stuart and Ian, the green staff. So if there is justice in golf, they had it in the form of Christmas dinner to be.
The shop is taking shape ready for Christmas. Plenty of warm fashionable clothing as well as the opportunity to avail of a new “toy” in the form of custom fitted clubs or perhaps a GPS product.
Without doubt custom fitting benefits everyone who plays. For those who are still sceptical you probably already have some sort of fitting when having new grips put on existing clubs. Whether it be extra/less tape than before or compound to the grip is all very personal so why stop there? I recently carried out a survey and there are still as many as 35% of you without custom fitted clubs, be it irons, metals or a putter! Why not come and talk to me or the staff about the benefits and even get fitted to see what difference it can make to your game. Earlier this week I lengthened a members irons and re-lied them as well. I know his all too often thin and sometimes top will become a thing of the past. Come and talk to me about how the benefits can help you enjoy your game that much more.
If you are looking for a thank you present for another golfer how about taking advantage of our FREE ball personalisation offer. 1 dozen is all that`s required, normally this would add as much as £5 per box and a minimum order of 12 boxes would also be required.
Perhaps take the personalised idea that little bit further and get your shoes bespoke. FootJoy offer a great option to design your own shoes with colour, style and even differing size if needed. Click here or go onto the FootJoy/MyJoy website and design away. A great way to indulge, create a unique shoe that no one else can buy.
Many thanks to all of you who have taken a few squares on the Pro Shop draw, there is still numbers available so next time your passing why not have a square or two? Last year’s winner, Jon Berry, thought his first prize was the best day of golf he had ever experienced. It could be you!
The rugby autumn internationals are upon us and with the World Cup due next season the matches have plenty of significance. How do the Northern hemisphere stack up against the Big Three? So far only Ireland have made a dent in the Southern teams. A huge win against the Springboks. I bet Dublin would have been a great place to be Saturday evening! England and Wales needed the game so let’s see how they fair this weekend.
Chelsea are running away with the Premier League. Congratulations to “big selling” Southampton who have got a new Coach, virtually a new team and there has been no talk from them of “needing time to gel or get used to the players and language, etc”. A breath of fresh air to the sterile Premier League. Perhaps Man Utd chose the wrong Dutchman?
